General Announcements

General Announcements:

***In response to the Haiti earthquake, District 6380 is collecting monies in an effort to purchase as many ShelterBox's as possible.  A ShelterBox contains equipment that would allow a displaced family to set up temporary residence during this time of devastation in this VERY POOR country.  Please forward donations to Presdient Amy at 500 W. Nine Mile Rd., Ferndale 48220.  Checks may be made payable to ShelterBox USA - all donations are tax deductible.

1. Dues are due.  If you haven't submitted payment yet, please forward payment to Cheryl Baur as soon as possible.

2. Distrist Membership Summitt is scheduled for Saturday.  Three of our members, Amy, Alex and Earl will be attending.  We will have more to report on this next week.

3. Ferndale Library's application for new books was approved by the Richmond Rotary Club.  President Amy, Earl, Sherry and Dr. Raber (library director) will be attending the Richmond meeting on Tuesday, January 26th, 12:15 PM to receive the books.  If you would like to attend the meeting, please let President Amy know.  The Richmond Club is very excited to have Ferndale Rotary involved in this project.

4. Ferndale Community Foundation is hosting Taste of Ferndale II on February 16th.  Tickets are $30.00 each.  More details to follow.

5. On Tuesday, January 19th, Ferndale Chamber Coffee Connection will be at The Shelving Store, 1444 E. Eleven Mile Rd., Madison Heights (West of Dequindre) from 8 - 9 am.  Coffee Connections are free to all of our members, as we as a group pay for a Chamber membership.  This is a great way to get the word out about Rotary to local business people.  Let's try to get someone there!!! Let President Amy know if you are willing to be a representative of Rotary at these events.

6. Helen Singer sent an update on the Rotary Quilt she is making.  Everything looks great so far, but she is in need of some more ties.  Tell your Rotarian friends about the quilt, and maybe they will have one or two to donate to the cause.

7. Ferndale Rotary will be featured on the south marquee at 9 & Woodward the week of Jan. 18th.  If you're in the area, drive by and check it out!

Todays Program
by Amelia Roll

For the program today, we watched a video on Polio.  Very interesting and informative on the final push to eradicate this dreadful disease from the face of the earth.  It is a video that is in the clubs library and is available for each of us to view at any time.
