General Announcements:

1. GSE Farewell Party is this Sunday, Sept. 20th, from 2 - 4 PM at Terry B's (7954 Ann Arbor St) in Dexter.  Our club sponsored one of the participants...so if you are able to find the time, it would be great to show Preya Shaw our support!

2. Official visit of DG Judy Garver will be on Oct. 15th.  There will be a board meeting that same day, 4:30 PM at Blumz.

3. Board Meeting:  The board agreed to purchase new banners and stands...ours are looking worn; everything is on order and will hopefully be here in time for the DG visit.  We are also looking into the possibility of having a booth at the Fall for Ferndale Festival, Oct. 10th, in the hopes of selling more F.O.P. Motorcycle Raffle Tickets - as well as possibly hosting a Pancake Breakfast with Santa during the Holiday Ice Festival in December.  More to come on those two events!

3. Rotary Jeopardy will be on November 10 at the Royal Oak Club beginning at 12:15.  Our club needs to designate two people to participate in the game.  We also need to provide 10 questions from the Rotarian Magazine - August, Septemeber and October issues.  If you are interested in participating please let President Amy know.

4. Bloomfield Hills Club is sponsoring a Community Conversation hosted by Center for Michigan on October 5th from 7 - 9 PM at the Bloomfield Township Senior Center, 4315 Andover Rd.  It is an opportunity to express our visions about the state and country.  The space is filling up fast...if you would like to attend please let President Amy know so she can reserve seats.

Todays Program
by Amelia Roll

Tonight, Sherry Wells gave her classification talk.  This year she is celebrating 25 years as a publisher, so to say the least, she is well versed in this area.  Sherry gave us "Publisher 101" describing what exactly a publisher does...turns out not many of us knew much about the specifics.  Here's the details in a nutshell:

1. Publishing Company gets books printed - using a printing company

2. Editor at Publishing Company will authenticate information (making sure it is orginal work, checking resources), proofread material and make suggestions about organization, removing repitition, paragraphing, etc.  The author can dispute changes.

3. Chooses title and illustrator.

4. Pays royalties to the author

5. Receives and reviews manuscripts - the first five pages tell it all (should I continue reading or not) - very important that an author send manuscript to a publishing company that deals with the specific type of material submitted, many rejections can happen because of failure to research this.
