General Announcements

General Announcements:

1. UPCOMING EVENTS: Saturday, June 5th - Ferndale Bike Rodeo

Saturday, June 12th - Ferndale Relay for Life

2.  Our club was presented with an opportunity to partner with Higher Ground (an organization that provides assistance for people living with AIDS/HIV) at a function on July 13th, 5 - 8 PM.  Because of our clubs "experience" in parking , Higher Ground has asked us to manage the parking lot at this event.  All donations from the parking lot will be split 50/50 between us and Higher Ground.  As this is a networking event, Higher Ground will also provide us table space to promote Rotary and we will be able to put something in the goody bag that will be distributed to all the attendees.  Please let President Amy know if you are available to help with this...we will need 6 volunteers, 4 for the lot and 2 for the booth.

Todays Program
by Amelia Roll

Tonight we hosted the 16 applicants for the Educational Achievement Awards, their families and special guests from the school district, city of ferndale and District 6380.  It was the first time that our club has hosted an event like this in many years, and it was indeed very special.  Each of the applicants was recognized for their commitment to community service and furthering their education.  Jerome, Amy and Earl interviewed all 16 kids back in April and were delighted to have been able to meet all of these wonderful and deserving young men and women.

As part of our evening, we invited Ellen Blauer, D6380 Youth Exchange Social Coordinator, to present information about the youth programs available through Rotary.  She was also able to invite some students who had been involved in Youth Exchange - and now part of the community Rotoract Club - to share their experiences with our guests, along with Kimberly Taylor, the Berkley Interact Sponsor teacher.

Jerome and Amy then announced this years recipients: Rebecca Knight, Marnisha McIntyre and Kerry McLauhghlin.

All in all, it was a great event and we look forward to doing it again in years to come!!
